Solar farms (sometimes known as solar parks or solar fields) are the large-scale application of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to generate green electricity at a large scale, usually to feed into the grid. They can cover anything between 1 acre and 100 acres, and are usually developed in rural areas. They are differentiated from most building mounted and other decentralised solar power applications because they supply power at the utility level, rather than to a local user or users. In the UK solar farms are ground mounted on either agricultural or brown field land.
