As a leader, the GM was change driven, visionary, persistent, and passionate
about learning. The combination of these traits made him an effective change
agent, unlike most of top executives in SOEs who lack motivation to change
(Sun, 2000). With a clear vision, the GM repositioned the company in the market,
established shared goals and values among employees, and turned the financial loss
into profits. He persevered with his change plan despite the strong resistance from
his employees.
