Slow Food members worry about a second problem, too. Some types of plants and animals are becoming very rare, and the world is in danger of losing them completely. Some examples are

- Several kinds of date s grown only in area around Siwa,Egypt
- The blue-egg chicken of Temuco, Chile
- The pirarucu, a fish that lives in the Amazon River and can weigh more than 500 pounds (as much as 250 kilograms)
