1.Look at the frame to look for any signs of dents, breaks or corrosion. If you see any, the stretcher should not be used.
2.Extend the stretcher to full size and examine the hinges on the frame to verify they lock properly and won't collapse.
3.Check the straps and the claps to make sure they are functional and won't break. If a strap is torn or a clasp broken, it needs to be replaced before the stretcher is used or else the patient may not be properly restrained and could be more likely to suffer injury.
4.Push down on the stretcher to verify that it can safely support body weight. This further tests the frame and hinges to prevent the possibility of collapse.
