Recently, the combined effect of heat and US on cell viability and
death of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was studied (Wordon, Mortimer, &
McMaster, 2012). By real time fluorescent studies, it was found that
US induced non-lethal intracellular injuries not associated with the
membrane, and S. cerevisiae became more susceptible to heat damage.
Consequently, application of US can be an ideal candidate for hurdle
technology.
