Fife
It might surprise you to learn that two of the biggest gin brands in the world are produced in Scotland. Gordon’s and Tanqueray are both London dry gins that have their origins in England’s capital, but both brands are owned by multinational drinks company Diageo and are made at Cameron Bridge, near Leven, in Fife.
The recipes of both these gins are a heavily guarded secret – it’s said that only 12 people know how to make Gordon’s gin, and while it’s common knowledge that Tanqueray is made from juniper, coriander, angelica root and liquorice, the other ingredients remain a mystery.
Situated by the Firth of Forth, Wemyss Castle in Fife is home to the gin distillery which produces Darnley’s View. Their spiced gin won the title of World’s Best Contemporary Gin at the World Gin Awards 2014.
