Hat Yai traffic police women
The job of a traffic policeman is not an easy one, especially if it involves directing traffic in the hot sun on a busy city street
For various reasons, however, the public image of the traffic police is not very good. The traffic police chief in Hat Yai, Sitthisak Chansawang, is trying to change that in one quick and easy step.
He is putting police women on the job. Yesterday, six female officers from the Hat Yai police station were at five busy locations in the Songkhla provincial city during rush hour for the first time, with their male colleagues offering them a helping hand.
The men will be gradually removed as the police women adjust to the new assignment, Pol Lt Col Sitthisak said.
He hopes the new unit can ease stress for drivers on the roads and change the image of traffic police: service with a smile.
