As well as altering normal posture alignment, which in turn changes the shape of the trunk, it also changes interactions between body segments, causing standing instability6). Guo et al.7) reported that adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients exhibit a different postural sway as compared to the norm, which is why balance should be considered at an early stage when diagnosing scoliosis. Their findings indicated that understanding a patient’s postural sway characteristics can help with prevention and treatment of scoliosis.
