amylase. This process leads to
bacteria-producing acidic end products
with subsequent demineralization
of teeth (Barber & Wilkins, 2002;
Touger-Decker & van Loveren, 2003)
and increased risk for caries on susceptible
teeth (AAPD, 2010a). Bawa
(2005) and Sanders (2004) found a
positive relationship between sugar
intake and the incidence of dental
caries where fluoridation was miniconsumption
