2. Work principle
This paper aims to present the utilization of the heat rejected from a Stirling engine during compression in water desalination by cooling the gas leaving the cold chamber by means of porous media evaporator. The proposed system will serve the purpose of the heat exchanger in Stirling engine. The conventional cooling system in solar Stirling engine consists of high-pressure small diameter tubes (DOE, 1979; Ferreira et al., 2016). The new model proposes replacing the conventional heat exchanger by a heat exchanger with an evaporator that evaporates water. The rejected heat from the Stirling engine is transferred by means of heat exchange to the porous media evaporator that distillates the brine. The water vapor is condensed on the condenser plate in the form of pure water. The condenser plate is a finned plate that is continu- ously cooled by ambient air.
