The mobile host connects via a cell with the base station.
There are many base stations under the control of the
supervisor host, which serves as a gateway to communicate
with the wired medium. The developer of this approach had
two specific aims. The first was that base station
functionality could be transferred to the supervisor host, thus
reducing network costs, as one supervisor host would be in
control of the many base stations. The second was the
possibility of significantly reduced handovers occurrences,
as the mobile host roaming between cells would not need to
execute handovers when the two cells were controlled by the
one supervisor host.
