The prevalence of patients with signs of neuropathic
pain postoperatively across the three surgical groups was
significant. A prevalence of 32% was found in patients who
had undergone spinal surgery. It was expected that these
patients were at greater risk of postoperative neuropathic pain
signs because of the site of their surgery and preoperative
neuropathic pain (Wong et al, 2007; Calmels et al, 2009).
