1.1 Festival : Tak Bat Dokmai
1.2 Description : Tak Bat Dok Mai is a Buddhist ceremony in which local people offer flowers to monks as a way of making merit. In addition to the offerings of cooked rice, food, incense, candles and sacred items, the Tak Bat Dok Mai ritual includes offerings of Dok Khao Phansa flowers that only come into bloom during the Buddhist Lent. People can go to offer flowers to monks at many temples nationwide but the most popular are in Saraburi Province.
1.3 History / Purposes : Tak Bat Dokmai is a local cultural heritage of Phra Phutthabat district that has been practised since the Ayutthaya period. It is a unique festival in which Buddhists will present Dok Khao Phansa – traditional yellow and white blooms – to monks ascending the temple steps to pay respect to the Buddha’s Footprint as well as wash the monks’ feet as a way of making merit and washing away sins.
Dok Khao Pansa will bloom only around the time of the Buddhist Lent. They are also only growing in Phra Phutthabat district.
1.4 Time : Tak Bat Dokmai is held to coincide with the start of the annual three-month Buddhist Lent on the first day of the waning moon of the eighth lunar month.
Venue : Wat Phra Phutthabat Ratchaworamahawihan, Saraburi
1.5 Activities : - will be a mass alms giving with 3,000 monks
- will be a ceremony to pay respect to 89 candles from around Saraburi
- In the afternoon, there will be a parade
-will be two rounds of giving flowers to the monks on both days at 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
