2.3. Layout of an erosion plot
In each experimental unit, an erosion plot (Fig. 3) was installed. Each plot is 7 m2 in size (2 m in width and 3.28 m in length). The upper and both left and right sides of the plots were environed with a water-proof board of 35 cm width, of which 20 cm was placed into the soil while 15 cm remained above the surface. For the construction of the bottom part of the plot, galvanized steel sheet in a triangle shape was used in order to channel the entire runoff to a pipeline (PVC tube). The bottom side was kept 20 cm above the surface. A hole of 10 cm diameter in the centre of the iron board was constructed. This was tightly attached to the PVC tube and connected with a 200 litre plastic barrel. To keep the virginal plot conditions intact, care was taken during the installation not to cause remaining disturbance to the surface soil or vegetation, especially within the plot.
