There are several things to note here:
• An explicit multiplication sign is always needed in equations, for example between
the 1.2 and sin.
• The trigonometric functions (for example sin) work in radians. The factor π/180
can be used to convert degrees to radians. pi is an example of a named variable,
discussed in the next section.
• The function for a natural logarithm is called ‘log’, not ‘ln’.
Using these functions, and the usual mathematical constructions, Octave can do all
of the things that your normal calculator can do.
