Gear Selector Linkage
A worn or misadjusted gear selection linkage will affect
transmission operation. The transmission's manual shift
valve must completely engage the selected gear (Figure
40-19). Partial manual shift valve engagement will not
allow the proper amount of fluid pressure to reach the
rest of the valve body. If the linkage is misadjusted, poor
gear engagement, slipping, and excessive wear can result.
The gear selector linkage should be adjusted so the
manual shift valve detent position in the transmission matches
the selector level detent and position indicator.
