In March 2008, Domainer's magazine editor Mike St.John, expressed concern over the Anti-phishing Consumer Protection Act of 2008, introduced in U.S. Congress but not yet passed. If the bill were to become law, St.John warned, domainners found to have purloined trademarked or government names, such as FordsRUs.com, would face prosecution by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Attorney General and fines of up $6 million for each violation, plus attorneys’ fees. St.John thought the punishment outlined in the bill was excessive. Others may disagree.
