The common slogan to cope with globalization today is "think globally, act
locally" (some use the word "glocalization") (Eitzen & Zinn, 2006, p. 145), and
balancing this dichotomy is extremely complex. If a multinational manager were to heed
this advice, Punnett and Shenkar (2007) suggested, the manager must have knowledge
and "appreciation of the global possibilities and similarities among countries, as well as a
clear understanding of differences The effective international manager today
considers the global possibilities and is prepared for local eventualities" (p. 491).
