5.1.5 Amylase and Lipase (AMY and LIP)
These enzymes are considered together as they are used primarily in evaluating changes
in the pancreas. These two low-molecular-weight enzymes are found mainly in the
pancreas although amylase is also found in salivary glands and it may be useful in
monitoring changes in these glands. (See Chapter 9, Gastrointestinal Toxicity.)
5.1.6 Creatine Kinase (CK)
(Also known as creatine phosphokinase, CPK.) This enzyme is used primarily in studies
of cardiotoxicity and myotoxicity and will be discussed more fully in Chapter 10.
5.1.7 Pseudo- (or Non-specific) Cholinesterase and Acetylcholinesterase
(CHE)
Whilst of some interest in hepatic disease, these enzymes have much greater importance
when dealing with some neurotoxic agents (see Chapter 11).
