Disturbances on the power system will also result in large voltage fluctuations. The generator exciter primary regulation will act quickly and can often limit the steady state voltage deviation to less than 2,5 %. The primary regulation associated with transformer AVRs is inherently slow but can also contribute to acceptable steady-state voltage conditions after a disturbance. Care must be taken in the design that the voltage corrections produced by the generator excitation and the transformers do not contradict each other.
