Videos such as this fail to grasp technology. There is too much ignorance regarding technology. The problem is many people, even the most supposedly clued-up futurologists, don't actually understand technology.
To compare the future to the past (the horses analogy) only works if the future resembles the past, which is the key mistake futurologists make. It is similar to thinking it will rain tomorrow because it rained yesterday. Or perhaps future astronomers will be arrested and persecuted because Galileo was.
The future is often very different to the past. Consider the Internet. Imagine you lived in the past before the Internet had totally shaped our lives. Imagine trying to explain the Internet in the 1960s before anyone had really heard about the idea. What analogy would you have employed to explain the Internet to hippies at Woodstock?
In the future there will be no jobs, which means everything will be free. People struggle to understand what jobs actually are, jobs are a method to decrease scarcity. Money only exists due to scarcity. When all the jobs are gone there will be no money, no scarcity, no jobs, everything will be free.
The automation we will see is a wholly different ball game compared to the obsolescence of horses. Instead of eating horses we will 3D-print them, non-sentient ones, thus no pain-suffering. The video talks about how technology becomes cheaper... well if things will become so much cheaper, increasingly so, which they will, then horses will easily be supported while we also 3D-print non-sentient horse meat.
We will reach a point where everything can be afforded, unemployed horses will easily be accommodated without any suffering.
Money will be obsolete, everything will be free. Yes the route there could be turbulent but education, and #basicincome will prevail.
Meaning is within the brain not within the job, if you are intelligent, thus fears of having nothing to do, no direction or purpose, are irrelevant to me, not applicable.
Did you know the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter contains enough resources to support life and habitat for TEN QUADRILLION people. Bots will open up the resources of the universe thereby decreasing prices to zero.
The video in question is very narrow-minded, it looks to a short-term future based upon a past inapplicable to the future. The idea of new jobs is idiotic. There will be no jobs and this is good. THE FUTURE IS NOT THE PAST. Humans are not really horses.
