It is noteworthy that an overall shorter life cycle did not neg-atively affect biomass accrual and yield. Often a short(er)-seasonvariety is lower yielding than a long-season variety, because thecrop has less time for photosynthesis and biomass buildup. In Cen-tral Asia, however, simulations revealed that a potentially negativeeffect of a shorter life cycles in a CC-affected future was more thancounter balanced by more favorable growth conditions in early(higher temperatures) and late spring (higher temperatures anda positive effect of elevated atmospheric CO2concentrations).
