The experimental design was a split plot with six replications at each location. Main plots (five rows) consisted of cultivar, while subplots (single rows) consisted of harvest date. The tobacco was hand harvested three times. All plots were treated the same for the first two harvests, i.e. the same amount of tobacco was harvested from all plots within main plots. Leaves for the third (final) harvest were collected during a five-week period, i.e. five harvest dates.
