Study Design and Procedures
Data in this cross-sectional study were gathered
in two sessions approximately one month apart.
The first session took place in the child’s home,
and the second session was conducted in a child
development laboratory located at a Midwestern
urban university. Variations in parenting behavior
were assessed during the home visit and a
semi-structured ring toss game at the lab visit.
Children’s attachment status was assessed during
the Strange Situation, which took place at the
start of the lab visit. All caregivers provided written
informed consent at the first visit, before data
collection began. At the end of the study, caregivers
received $25 to thank them for their participation,
and children received a small prize
and snack.
