The role of the nurse in health promotion and maintenance of a health-promoting lifestyle is significant in the present health care system. Emphasis on primary prevention and health promotion places nurses in key positions as role models, health promoters, and providers of health care. Inclusion of these health concepts in nursing curricula can provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to educate patients about specific strategies to improve health. In addition, when nursing students become practicing nurses, they need to understand the importance of their personal healthpromoting lifestyle and the value of such behaviors (Pawloski & Davidson, 2003).
