Polarization of the clarified juice was obtained with an
automated saccharimeter. Brix and polarization values
were used to estimate sucrose content (Gravois & Milligan,
1992). Cane yield (Mg/ha) was estimated as the
product of stalk number per unit area and mean stalk
weight. Sucrose yield (Mg/ha) was the product of cane
yield and sucrose concentration then divided by 10.
