Africa, approximately 5.7 million people are HIV-infected
[2] and are highest amongst young adults living in informal
settlements [3]. In KwaZulu-Natal province, 39.7% of pregnant
women (national rate is 28.1%) are infected [4]. HIV
and AIDS are often accompanied by physiological impairments
and socio-economic changes that adversely affect
nutritional status of the HIV-positive adults [5].
