Students have been asked to consider, “How can critical reading responses in a contemporary or literature course be made visible and assessed? What works, what possible, what is? Students are introduced to a new format of learning, which is focused, experiential learning organized around investigation, explanation and a resolution of meaningful problems, in other words, to solve the problem. Students must ask question of the text, they must become experts, they must examine the degree of truth they find affects them and to be able to question and speculate about how the writer has constructed that truth with certain effects in mind. When reading a contemporary article (here and now), how are readers supposes to know what to trust or believe, especially when on some occasion they encounter actual persons, places, events associated from their own history, and on other occasions are reading about cultures with which they are unfamiliar?
