Two including a woman held for theft Ahmedabad: Crime branch sleuths on Sunday nabbed Suresh Vedvani and his woman accomplice Manju Chunara, a resident of Thakkernagar in Bapunagar for stealing valuables from luggage of passengers who hired their autorickshaw.
Crime branch officials said they have recovered gold jewellery and the autorickshaw used in the crime worth Rs 1, 39,500 from the duo. Sub inspector Kiran Chaudhary of anti-organized crime cell of the city crime branch said Vedvani used to drive the three-wheeler and Chunara used to pose as a passenger.
"About 20 days back a woman hired their auto from Umreth bus station. While on the way Chunara stole gold jewellery from the woman's purse and left her mid-way saying that auto has developed a technical snag," added Chaudhary. Crime branch sources said the woman after reaching her destination realized that her jewellery is missing. "She then had lodged a complaint with Umreth police station," added a crime branch source. Chaudhary added they have handed over the accused to Umreth police station for further investigation. tnn
