The physical characteristics of theXG–DCAbeads are shown
in Table 2. The mean diameters of the XG–DCA beads tended
to increase with increasing content of XG added. The DCA
beads prepared were spherical as shown in SEM photographs
(Fig. 6a and c). The DS entrapment efficiency of the XG–DCA
beads increased significantly (P < 0.05) with increasing amount
of XG. Itwas indicated that the interaction ofXGwithSA caused
an increase in barrier for preventing a water leakage from the
beads during the preparation period (Dashevsky, 1998).
