Right, but I guess I would point out the fact that that is completely inconsistent with every other time signature.
For example 5/4 can be 2+3 or 3+2, it's not really standardized, but the 5 beats per measure is consistent in every form of 5/4 regardless of how it's divided. 2 beats in a measure of 6 does not make sense to me from a consistency standpoint. I don't see why 6/8 should have a special exception just because it did historically - if you really want an accent on 2 sets of 3, you can write triplets in 2/4. Or, better yet, actually write in accents on notes you want accented.
