Table 1 provides an overview of the topics covered and corresponding instructional strategies used. Session 1 began with a true–false test used as a warm-up exercise and included a class discussion focusing on myths about aging and the medical illness of depression. Next, a brief lecture was provided describing major depression. Although the lecture as a teaching strategy has become less accepted in favor of active learning methods, it was felt that it was important to provide a foundation and motivation for the target behavior: assessment of depression.
