business
The way we run our organisation and operate in our industry is important to us, and we aim to behave responsibly in all of our business operations. We want to have a positive impact on society and to ensure that those who work with us do too. From working to reduce the environmental impact of creating and broadcasting our programmes to ensuring our audiences get the best from us, we are accountable to the public and our responsibilities to our audiences are always a key part of any decision making.
Impartiality lies at the heart of public service and is the core of our commitment to our audiences. It applies to all our output and services - television, radio, online, and in our international services and commercial magazines. We must be inclusive, considering the broad perspective and ensuring the existence of a range of views is appropriately reflected.
Our Fair Trading Guidelines apply to all our activities and ensure we trade fairly and with regard to the competitive impact of our activities on the wider market. Our Information Policy and Compliance team advises our staff on data protection and Freedom of Information, and all staff re required to complete an online training course that must be refreshed at least every two years.
Our Terms of Trade requires any suppliers we work with, and any sub-contractors they use, to adhere to the codes of practice published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Equality Commission Northern Ireland. Our Towards a Sustainable BBC initiative, launched in October 2013, sets out key principles that underpin our approach to sustainable procurement and demonstrating commitment to achieve this across the supply chain.
