Hi,
For my journalism class I´m doing some research on the discrimination of Israeli tourists.
While travelling I´ve encountered a number of situations in which Israeli tourists were discriminated: they were charged tripled prices for hotels, or denied access altogether, their reserved seats on a bus suddenly´disappeared´ even though they had confirmed just few hours before, they were totally ignored by a tour group, and many similar situations.
Now I can understand that this discrimination may be due to political or religious issues. However, the incidents described above took place in countries such as Nepal, Ecuador and Peru, where I assume the political or religious issues hardly play a role. So is this antisemitism, or is something else going on?
What I would like to know from you is:
- have you ever encountered a similar situation in which an Israeli tourist was discriminated?
- what do you think is the reason for this discrimination?
- if you are an Israeli traveller yourself: do you recognize this issue, and what are your thoughts on the matter?
Thank you in advance and kind regards,
Ingeborg
