To comply with all of these regulations, accurate, sensitive and fast
detection methods allowing the direct authentication of fishes and
the monitoring of potential risks in any seafood product are highly
recommendable. Although over the last two decades, several DNA
(Sotelo & Pérez-Martín, 2006) and protein molecular markers
(Rehbein, 1990; Tepedino et al., 2001) have been developed for the
purpose, the recent successes of proteomics methodologies make
them a promising strategy for these objectives.
