Maize above-ground biomass was harvested at the end of each cultivation
cycle and weighed after drying at 50 °C for 10 days. The maize
yield was estimated as the total dry weight of grains per plant
(g plant−1
). The above-ground biomass of weeds was cut, dried at
50 °C for 10 days and weighed after the second and third maize cultivation
and before starting the next cultivation cycle. Weed biomass was
not measured after the first maize cultivation because its growth was irregular
and not significant overall.
