Emotional intelligence has its roots in Thorndike‟s (1920) concept of social intelligence as well as Gardner‟s (1983) concept of inter-personal and intra-personal intelligences. Thorndike defined social intelligence as the ability to perceive self and others‟ internal states, motives, and behaviors, and to respond most favorably, based on that
