The three-day deluge that flooded Dunedin last month has cost insurers more than $28 million in claims.
Dunedin and parts of Otago were flooded following record rainfall between June 2 and 4 which has lead to thousands of insurance claims.
Local households have filed more than 2000 claims worth $20m so far, while another $8m has been sought by businesses, the Insurance Council of New Zealand said.
About 1250 properties were affected by flooding in Dunedin, the council said with about 280 houses assessed as having accommodation and health risk issues.
