With global warming affecting weather patterns around the world, tourism investors are seeking new ways to capitalize on shorter winters and longer summers.
Halil Ergül from Bolu is one example of such entrepreneurs. Ergül is the owner of the Grand Kartal Hotel in Kocaeli’s Kartalkaya winter resort. He recently decided to move a part of his investment to Bolu from Kartalkaya, having seen that the winter tourism season is now shorter than it was 10 years ago. “The winter season in Turkey has dropped to three months from five months in the past 10 years. ... I could have used the money that I earn from this hotel to extend services at the Grand Kartal, but I think it is best to diversify investments,” he explains.
