This is a story about Thailand’s silk weavers. Silk weaving is an age-old tradition that dates back to what is known to some as Southeast Asia’s oldest civilization. In this story, we will feature a grandmother and a grand-daughter who are surrounded by the silk weaving tradition. The young girl in this story will marvel at the intricately-woven fabric, born out of the delicate fibers from the silkworms. She looks up to her grandma and she is in awe with her talent, skill and precision. Her grandmother being one of the oldest among the silk weavers is teaching the rest of the women, passing on the tradition of what was once also passed down to her. This has inspired the young girl who would later grow up as one who masters the use of the fabric.
Fast forward to the future, the young girl has carried on the tradition in a different form. She now designs home interiors using these fabrics as a testament to her past and in honor of her grandma’s traditions.
