Eye-to-eye contact was noted in only one
mother. generally, premature infants are in
a sleep state and rarely open their eyes.
One mother was able to achieve eye-to eye
contact with her infant because the infant
woke up and cried during her visit.
The mother stated: "He stopped crying
when I touched him and opened his eyes
to look at me. I am very glad." Thus,
eye-to-eye contact is not a good measure
because many infants are not capable of
this behavior.
