Tierney also sees case-team staffing as an opportunity to build Bain's human assets. He maintains that promoting broad membership in practice areas helps overcome case-team myopia. "In principle," he says, "you don't want 'dedicated' thinkers because dedicated thinkers create fire walls against spreading ideas. That doesn't mean we don't nurture experts. But it does mean that we're trying to create a learning architecture where Bain people learn in a variety of contexts.
