The loss models computed in Section X are used to
compute converter losses in a CNT operated at 13kV and 1
MW, shown in Figure 15. The CNT is tap changing
transformer augmented with a power electronic converter, a
direct AC/AC chopper in this case, to control real and
reactive power [6]. To control 1 MW of power, the CNT
uses a new modulation strategy called the virtual quadrature
sources (VQS) which allows the CNT to control real power
without the need of any energy storage elements [7]. The
simulations are performed in SaberTM.
