The Initial Setting of Standard Cost
Standard cost per unit is set out in Bill of Materials (BOM) maintained in the System. The BOM sets out the list of components used to manufacture a particular product and would comprise information such as cost per unit, quantity, and part numbers.
Each product has a specific BOM that is determined by the Engineers (Research and Development) when the product was initially launched. The major BOM can only be amended by Engineers. According to the Company produced to job order which use the major BOM to modify only size or quantity of raw materials, this minor BOM can be amended by PC Manager. Other production and costing departments can only access BOM of current product but do not have the required access to amend the BOM.
There is no period to revise BOM; it depends on suitability whether quantity or material change can effect the better production or not. Engineers will create new BOM called “Engineering Manufacturing Structure” (EMS), described the detail of material or quantity. Engineering manager approved the EMS, and then the document is sent to be kept in log room.
