In addition to ASTER, the other instruments on Terra are the ModerateResolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), Multi-angle Imaging Spectro-Radiometer (MISR), Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES), and Measurements of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT). As the only high spatial resolution instrument on Terra, ASTER is the “zoom lens” for the other instruments. Terra is in a sun-synchronous orbit, 30 minutes behind Landsat ETM+; it crosses the equator at about 10:30 am local solar time.
