Having an insight into the care setting, the logistics of the
environment to be studied and the population in question
can aid the development of a tool, which is appropriate
and applicable to the setting of the study (Parahoo, 2006;
Rattray and Jones, 2007). Consequently, the researcher
decided to develop the questionnaire based on the literature
and developed items which were deemed to be relevant
for local application. This was further tested through peer
review and a pilot study.
