The process of creating this document has been complex and, at times, somewhat
conflictual. However, we have managed to ‘hold’ and work with the creative tensions
involved in this challenging process, and the undersigned members of ECA all stand
behind this document. We have been determined to avoid an anodyne, lowest-commondenominator
effort, and we hope we’ve succeeded in producing a cutting-edge
framework to which all progressive practitioners will feel able to subscribe. We commend
this text to the field, in the hope that it can contribute to an urgently needed paradigm
shift through which we can collectively find a better way in our dedicated work with
young children’s development and learning.
