The uncertainty regarding the role of cannabis is reflected by the multiple indications
for its use. Treatment was recommended by the treating oncologists for a wide array of

This unique prescription pattern differs from that of most approved medications, which are
often registered and prescribed for very specific indications, based on data obtained
from clinical trials. Interestingly, the reasons for cannabis use in cancer patients in our study
differ from the general medical marijuana population in the U.S., where the most common
indications among more than 286,000 registered users were severe or chronic pain
(92%), muscle spasms (21%), and nausea and vomiting (12%)
