Scaling the design into the micro-hydro range, for example 20 kW for 3.5 m head, results in a jet diameter of 314 mm and the corresponding turbine disc pitch circle diame- ter of 2350 mm, making transport to remote sites difficult. There- fore, although the Turgo turbine is an appropriate solution at the low head for the pico hydro scale, it may not be suitable for higher power levels at low heads. Turgo turbines can use multiple jets, which would increase the rotational speed of the turbine for the same flow rate, as the jet could be smaller, making the turbine smaller. However, it was found during the testing that at the small scale that water travelled over 180 around the turbine disc, so this could interfere with any second jet implemented.
