Analyzing the effectiveness of preventive
measures revealed that tackling all determinants
can reduce the prevalence
of overweight by 77.7%(95%CI: 76.7–78.8)
(= joint AR), that is, a decrease from
13.4% to 3.0%. The relative contributions
of each determinant (partial AR) are
given in Table 3. Parental overweight (and
obesity) and high media time reached
highest partial ARs. By successfully
treating and/or preventing parental
overweight, the prevalence of childhood
overweight is reduced by 42.5% (by 5.7
percentage points). Social determinants
ranked second with a partial AR of 14.3%
(–1.9 percentage points) followed by
media time (–11.4% or –1.5 percentage
